Kris Okumu, M.D.,  is a fellowship-trained, Orthopaedic Spine surgeon and the Medical Director of The Spine Health Institute.    He is trained in pediatric and adult scoliosis surgery, complex spine surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery.  Dr. Okumu believes most patients with spine conditions will improve and recover with wellness-based, non-operative treatment including physical rehabilitation, chiropractic care, acupuncture,  and lifestyle changes.  For those patients who require surgery, Dr. Okumu will provide the latest techniques in spine surgery and evidence-based care.

Dr. Okumu received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his medical degree from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine.  He completed an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the San Francisco Orthopaedic Residency Program.  Dr. Okumu received his subspecialty training in orthopaedic surgery of adult and pediatric spinal disorders at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City
